The Thermodynamic Police was formed to enforce the Laws of Thermodynamics. The oath of office reads:

I, ____________________________, being of sound mind, do hereby swear to protect and reinforce, to the best of my ability, the Laws of Thermodynamics. I promise and affirm that I will assist, to the extent necessary, in maintaining the energy content of the Universe constant and will encourage, aid and assist in the effort to assure that the total entropy, Universe-wide, continually increases, all for the benefit of human kind without regard to race, sex, religion, color, creed, national origin, or sexual preference.

I affirm my duty to actively intervene using the authority vested in me as a member of the ThermoDynamic Police to apprehend, arrest, detain and deliver up to the appropriate tribunal any and all persons, beings, forces or groups of whatever kind, type, nature or origin attempting to mute the immutable laws of nature.

So help me God.

Dated this _____ day of ________________ in the Year of our Lord __________.

While searching through some papers this weekend I came across a letter from Dr. Stanley Pons. It is dated 5/23/1989.

In the letter he accepts membership in the ThermoDynamic Police and solicits membership for Martin Fleischman. He includes signed oaths of office for the organization. (See the oath below)

As a lark I had offered Dr. Pons membership as a statement of an open mind toward his alleged discovery of cold fusion. I had also sent him a ThermoDynamic Police cap. He asked for a second complimentary cap which I sent.

It was fun to find the correspondence. I understand he is cooking up a storm in the south of France.

There must be some violation of the Laws going on. The USA is going downhill at an ever increasing speed while less and less energy is put into the system. Is that entropy? Are we following the laws downward into a purple spiral?

We had this horrific hurricane and all of our systems failed. Our Federal, State, and local governments failed us. Bodies are floating in the streets, people are starving, and all communications are gone.

While New Orleans burns Bush fiddles.

"Let it be?"

It has been some time since I posted anything to the Blog. In the meantime entropy continues to increase, thank God. We have had only about 1,000 hits. They have come from many countries which is rewarding to see.

Best regards to all of you around the world.

In the few months this Blog has been around persons from 25 countries have somehow located it. Welcome to all and remember---"We don't make the laws, we just enforce them." Report all suspected cases via email and we will follow up at the appropriate tribunal.

The August, 2003 issue of Wired Magazine has an interesting article entitled "The Antigravity Underground, The Fantastic Floating Device Called a Lifter Has No Moving Parts, No Onboard Fuel and No Shortage of Wide-eyed Admirers." It even has plans to make one for yourself. You throw the electrical juice to it and it levitates. Nobody knows the mechanism of its liftoff however.
Speaking of Wired. At $12 for 12 issues of technology and great graphics it is a deal.

The British scientist C.P. Snow had a convenient way of remembering the three laws:

1. You cannot win (that is, you cannot get something for nothing, because matter and energy are conserved).

2. You cannot break even (you cannot return to the same energy state, because there is always an increase in disorder; entropy always increases).

3. You cannot get out of the game (because absolute zero is unattainable).

Check these guys out ----- Macatea Productions

Publishers of technical books and ebooks, especially textbooks in
engineering. Currently in print are books on thermodynamics, technical
writing, data analysis, and molecular dynamics simulation.

Their website also provides commentary on technical writing
(www.macatea.com/attic/) and thermodynamics (www/macatea.com/workshop/). The
thermo page includes calculators for obtaining thermo properties of selected
pure fluids.

In addition to these activities, they have written a graduate-level text on
chemical engineering thermodynamics that will be published in spring 04 by
Cambridge University Press.
